What Is Whiplash and How Is Treated?

What Is Whiplash and How Is Treated?

Whiplash is a form of neck strain. Although it's usually associated with car accidents, as WebMD explains, any impact or blow that causes your head to jerk forward or backward can cause neck strain. The sudden force stretches and tears the muscles and tendons in your neck. In addition to car and truck accidents, contact sports like football can cause neck strain.

Whiplash victims are often told that their soreness and stiffness – along with any other symptoms, such as headaches, back pain or numbness – will go away with time. Unfortunately, accident victims are rarely that fortunate. Whiplash sufferers can experience symptoms they never had before the accident for months, even years.

Soft tissue injuries due to whiplash interfere with the body's ability to straighten the structural damage. As Dr. Selinger, a leader among Lake Worth chiropractors, likes to say, the healing of a spinal whiplash injury without proper professional care would be somewhat like healing a broken bone without first setting it. If the whiplash injury does not receive proper physical care such as spinal adjustments, the body might mend the injured spine in a distorted position, which could contribute to chronic and more severe problems in the future. It takes less time to heal and it is much less costly to treat the whiplash immediately following the injury than it is to treat it months or years later.

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, it is important to receive help for your injuries as soon as possible. At Selinger Chiropractic, we offer whiplash treatment in Lake Worth. We can also help if you’re suffering pinched nerve pain or lower back pain.

What Should You Do If You Are Involved in a Car Accident?

What Should You Do If You Are Involved in a Car Accident?

In the event of an accident, there are seven steps you should follow:
1.     Stop – If you fail to stop after an accident where someone has been injured, you can be charged with a felony. If no one is injured and there is only property damage, failure to stop after an accident is still a misdemeanor.

2.     Call 911 - Report the accident and advise if anyone is injured. If you are injured, let an ambulance take you to the hospital.
3.     Safety - If the accident occurred on a street with fast-moving traffic, get out of your car and wait for the police off the road.  If possible, stay on the side away from your car, just in case your car is struck by another vehicle. Be careful not to stand in front of your car and not to stand with your back to traffic. If you are able, you can protect the scene with flares for additional safety.
4.     Police - When law enforcement arrives on the scene, make sure that an accident report is made and make sure you get the report number. You want to cooperate with the police but don’t make admissions or give opinions. If there are any witnesses who can back up your version of events, get their names, addresses, and telephone numbers and ask them to give statements to the officer.
5.     Identification – Don’t make the mistake of being too trusting.  Collect the names and addresses of the other drivers as well as the registered owners of the other vehicles involved in the accident. You’ll also want to jot down the license plate numbers, vehicle identification numbers (VINs), and state of registration for the other vehicles. And by the way, if a two-piece truck is involved in the accident, you’ll need the license plate number, VIN, and state of both the cab and the trailer.
6.     Take notes - Write down everything you can to help you remember all of the facts leading up to the accident or record it on your phone. Make note of any pain or symptoms you may be experiencing and report your injuries to a doctor as soon as possible after the accident.

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, it is important to receive help for your injuries as soon as possible. We know. Dr. Selinger is an experienced chiropractor for car accident. You may experience pain in your back and neck that can interfere with your quality of life. Don’t suffer alone. Arm pain solutions and whiplash treatment in our Lake Worth office are available.

Conditions That Benefit From Chiropractic Care

Conditions That Benefit From Chiropractic Care

There are some medical conditions that can truly benefit from chiropractic care. Two of those conditions are osteoarthritis and sciatica. Several individuals struggle daily with pain directly related to one of these conditions.

1. Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is also known as Degenerative Joint Disease. Joints that have been worn by so much use over time can easily develop osteoarthritis. When you develop this form of arthritis, it's common to feel neck and back pain that only worsens as the years go by. Not only does this form of arthritis cause you intense neck and back pain, but it can also cause headaches, dizziness, and a grinding feeling when you move.

2. Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the gathering of nerves that extend from the spinal cord down into the pelvic bones. The sciatic nerves controls organs that are located in the pelvis and everything from your hips to your toes. Sciatica is the inflammation of that sciatic nerve which is the largest and longest nerve in your body. Common symptoms of sciatic are severe burning in the low back, hips, and legs. The medical professionals here can treat sciatica with conservative chiropractic adjustments to realign the misaligned vertebrae.

If you or a loved one struggle with one of these conditions, then you need not suffer any longer. At Gwinnett Medical Neck & Back Pain Chiropractic Center, we are dedicated to offering our patients life-changing care.
